Hey, everyone. Two weeks ago, I started getting fever symptoms (high temperature, coughing, overproduction of mucus) every day. The fever mostly disappeared, but then, four days ago, I woke up with an acutely painful sore throat. On the second day, my doctor ordered antibiotics for me, which I have been taking faithfully, but I've almost finished the pack (I've taken four days worth) and the pain hasn't reduced in intensity whatsoever. There are white spots on my tonsils and my left tonsil is huge, as is my left lymph node. It's incredibly painful to swallow and, in the mornings, to talk. The only thing that helps is ibuprofen, and it only helps a little. I can barely eat or drink. I only sleep for three hours a night, because the pain is so bad. I have no other symptoms, except fatigue, but I think it's normal for me to feel fatigue after only sleeping three hours every night.
Should I go to the doctor? I'm thinking about going in today to ask for a throat swab and a mono test. When I initially went in for my throat, the doctor said it was "probably viral" and sent me home without any tests. When my dad called him on the weekend and told him about the spots, then he ordered azithromycin. I'm afraid to go in again and be turned away with the order to "wait it out" again. I'm in excruciating pain! I'd take anything, even a coma for the next week if it meant I woke up without pain. Nothing helps besides the ibuprofen, which barely matters. Not gargling with salt water, not drinking tea or honey or eating ice cream or water or anything. I feel crippled by this. What should I do?
