  1. try soaking it in oil, works well with bridles, also if you are not riding with a saddle cloth, it may help to.

Also, the saddle may not fit correctly, get a saddler down just to check.

  2. it just means in short that its poor quality leather the best you can do is just  oil it and clean it over and over and that might help

    good luck =]]

  3. turn it upside down and fill it w/ baby powder.....then...turn it back up and shake it all out....that is how we get our new ropen' saddle to quit squeaking.....hope i helped...

edit:  never mind....kim already told you...lol...sorry...didnt see that

  4. Cleaning and then conditioning the leather should resolve your squeaky problem.

  5. Cleaning and conditioning will help it.  However, you may need to repeat the process of conditioning your saddle much more frequently at the start-up.

You can also try shaking some baby powder between the saddle jockey and the skirt of the saddle to reduce the friction between these leather parts.  You may also have to repeat this process as well.

Check out www.western-saddle-guide.com for the parts of a western saddle.

  6. If it's a western saddle, flip it upside down, fill a spray bottle with Lexol conditioner and a little water, and spray using the adjustable stream on the nozzle,  into the crevices that you cannot reach with a sponge or rag.  Did this with my big show saddle and it worked just like a charm.  You may also try this with any areas of an english saddle that you cannot reach with a sponge or rag.  I haven't found anything yet that beats this technique for quieting down squeaks on a saddle.   Is there a more annoying sound while showing your horse...?

Edit:  Amy.... Leather Therapy may darken Hermann Oak leather on show saddles more than is desireable for the show pen.  It would be fine for everyday saddles.    Lexol has two varieties of leather conditioners; one conditioner is intended for use on light colored leather found on show saddles.  It will not darken them.  The other Lexol conditioner may be used for everyday saddles.  Ask for help to find out which is which at your tack shop.

  7. Neets foot oil or a quality leather conditioner is your friend!

Cleaning would be good for it also but might actually make it squeak more.  Use a spray bottle or small-tipped bottle to oil places you couldn't normal get to.  I've even used a needle and syringe in the past to inject neets foot oil between double layers.

  8. Cleaning may help a little, but you really need to oil it. Try Leather Therapy Restorer and conditioner. It is great for squeaks. http://www.leathertherapy.com/index.php?...

Sovereign7 - yeah, I also like the Lexol conditioner for squeaks, and definitely get it all up in the cracks. The Leather Therapy is just a little heavier and I think does a better job of moisturizing.

  9. Clean it completely then oil with Lexol or the oil of your choice... that should help and if not check to see if the saddle fits the horse right.

  10. oil is the key!!!

go to your feed store and tell em your story and the will get the right brand for you!

  11. It might not fit your horse right.

  12. If it happens to be a light colored saddle, and you don't want to discolor it with alot of oil - try this:

Flip it over and sprinkle baby powder down between the stirrups, fenders etc - anywhere leather rubs on leather.  I did this trick and it worked wonders to stop the squeak!
