ExxonMobil Qatar signs two-year contract with Commercialbank Qatar Masters
Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy is the next stop on the tour calendar and will be featuring some of the top-ranked players on the tour, sans Tiger Woods who will head back to his home ground on PGA.
ExxonMobil Qatar reiterated its commitment to the promotion of the sport in the Middle Eastern country and has signed a two-year sponsorship agreement of the title on Monday, January 30.
Bart Cahir, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Inc said,
“ExxonMobil has been firmly behind this tournament since it began fourteen years ago and we are delighted to have seen it grow to become one of the premier overseas tournaments on the European Tour schedule”.
European Tour has found the Middle Eastern oil driven economies, one of the most lucrative settings for its events, which most definitely come as a sigh of relief for the tour which has been battling economic crunch at home.
European Tour not only lost two of the title sponsors for the Scottish Open and the Irish Open but had to suffer a setback when Barclays announced it will not be supporting the on-going events for the year 2012.
Qatar Masters will be starring some of the big wigs of the tour including the top-ranked players on the Official World Gold Rankings, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer and will also be featuring the grizzled PGA Tour players Hunter Mahan, K.J Choi and Jason Day.
Cahir further added, “With first appearances by Jason Day and Hunter Mahan – two of the brightest talents in the game - golf fans around the world will look to Qatar to see who will be named the next champion”.
Also part of the field will be the grizzled Graeme McDowell who is also coming out of a strong performance in Abu Dhabi and will be hoping to start off the season on a better note as compared to 2011.
He will be joined in by reigning Dubai World Champion and former Commercialbank Qatar Masters winner Alvaro Quiros as well as the defending champion Thomas Bjorn of Denmark.
The 7,414-yard Doha Golf Club is considered as one of the longest and the toughest Middle Eastern courses and boosts of the notorious Shamal winds which can test the patience and nerves of the players in the field.
