I want to get contact lenses and was wondering if I wore contact lenses that wern't exactly my perscription would it matter?

I mean:

- At the moment I wear glasses that are -2.75 in my left eye and -3.00 in my right.

- My perscription is now -3.00 in my left and -3.25 in my right.

- Would it matter if I wore -3.00 in both eyes (referring to contacts lenses, would this decrease the cost and also mean that there is les confusion about which eye as they would both be the same)

Thanks for help

Tom

  1. ive been wearing lenses for 8 years and my optician will always give me the strength below if i run out of lenses, and just give me some to wear temorarily, you shouldnt really go stronger in strength though because it will worsen your eye sight, temporarily it wouldn't be a problem but i wouldnt really advise you to do that full time, you will deffinatly get some really bad headaches i promise you

  2. Yes it would matter, measurements etc have to be taken for both eyes and the prescription may differ from your glasses.  Lots of places do free trials.

  3. You can wear them, but you're vision won't be properly corrected.

When fitting contact lenses, the prescriber takes into account your axis and possibly other eye problems (like astigmatism) as well as your prescription strength (nearsightedness).

All standard strength contact lenses cost the same amount - you won't save any money this way, so wear the right ones.

Get properly fitted once - pay for the exam and fittings - and then once you know what's good (and comfortable) buy them online or from a discounter.

Tha way you'll save your eyes AND your money.

  4. I don't see a problem with having the same prescription for both eyes, even though there'a s 0.25 difference in one eye - I do!

I have been wearing daily disposable lenses with the weaker perscription in both eyes for the last 4 years, with no ill effects or change to my vision. Ask your optician if that is something that might work for you

    HTH!

  5. It wouldn't save you any money... you'd still need one lens for each eye: and get through them at the same rate.

3 boxes of -3.00 and 3 of -3.25 cost about the same as 6 boxes of either.  (and if there's bulk-buy discount, just buy six boxes of each!)

But I have before now discussed with patients, with only 0.25 difference, who occasionally got left and right confused whether they'd be happier with simplicity over the exact Rx.

But note: there is one circumstance where even with lenses of identical power there is a left and right.

If you've just put a lens in your right eye, the next one is a left.

(some people can do anything, before they've had their first coffeee, it seems...)

  6. If you go onto the online contact lenses shops, they give you the option of having 'x' prescription in left and right eye,,
