Question:

Eye appointment on Friday- getting contacts?

I'm getting contacts this Friday (YAY!!!! lol) and I'd like some tips for how to put them in. I don't want to have to spend 3 hours there trying to put in my contacts. I've been to the eye doctor before (I have a yearly appointment there) and I know what it's like. I just want to know what to expect with a "getting contacts" appointment. Thanks :).

  1. You can expect a more in-depth exam, but it shouldn't take much longer than usual. Your eye care professional will instruct you on how to insert the contacts. The best thing to do is stay relaxed. Keep your finger tips close to the lids when you pull the bottom one down. Keep your eye open wide to allow the contact to touch your eye and not your lid. It just takes a little practice.

  2. If you look up and push your skin at the bottom of your eye down it will go right in and when you blink it will be in the perfect place. It kinda has like a goowee feeling though... Make sure your hands are clean because your eye can easily get infected and your eyes will be red for days, weeks, months, years etc. ahahaha!!! JK a couple of days hehe!!....

  3. How exciting! I have been wearing soft contacts for years. I just scheduled an appointment in December for PRK - a variation of Lasik eye correction surgery. Anyway, make sure your hands are very clean. Be careful of fuzzies after you towel dry them - I always use a paper towel. The rougher the better. Lint can be almost invisible and can cause itching if it is on the lens when you place in your eye. I always use my index finger. Place the lens bowl shape up on your index finger and use the other hand to open your eyelid. Place the lens directly in the center of the eye. You may have to blink once or twice and it will fall exactly in to place. Don't force it. Practice a few times in the office and at home, before you actually need to wear them. Make sure you buy good product. There is a protein buildup that can happen. It is usually clear or cloudy and can be on the lens or in your eye. Make sure to follow the directions on the Cleanser's package, as well as your doc. Also, do not sleep in your lenses. They can create redness, irritation bumps on the inside of your lids, and dryness/itchiness.
