Eye doctor dissapeared, how can I get contacts fast?

Ok, I am leaving for europe in a week and will be gone for about 2 months.

I am on my last pair of contacts.

Last week I called my eye doctor to order some more contacts and he didnt pick up. No answering machine either.

I ended up stopping by his doctors office which was in a k-mart lot and saw that it was shut down with a huge relater poster saying the place was available for a lease. I cannot find any information regarding a possible relocation.

I looked into ordering online, but they are required to contact your doctor to verify your prescription. Placed an order anyway. This might have flopped as the order has been "processing" for 2 business days.

I have 5 days left to get some contacts. What would be the best way to go about this. I still have my contacts boxes with my prescription info on them. I also have a pair of glasses. Do I need to get a eye new doctor or what? Are there any stores that carry contacts?

My prescription is biomedic 55 -2.75 14.2 D, 8.6 BC.

  1. Where did you get your contact from? I know I had some luck, I had an emergency, I called around and found a helpful person that gave me a pair till I could get an appt with them, I had my old boxes and copy of prescription. If you had insurance they could verify a copy.

You need to hunt this doc down.

Or get a new eye exam fast.

  2. These are very common lenses, many optometrists keep them in stock or very similar. They usually only take 1-2 days to order in anyway. Visit a new optometrist and get it sorted with a new prescription.

  3. I know places like Walmart and Target keep a stock of contact lenses on hand in common prescriptions.  You can usually schedule the appointment the same day as well.

If you happen to have a copy of your prescription, there are many places online that just a need a copy of it.

Good Luck and a have a great time in Europe.

  4. Sorry, but you can't get prescription contacts in stores or online without a doctor referral.

My advice- get a new optometrist asap, order the contacts and get someone to post them to you in Europe. Also be a bit more careful about where you get them the Kmart car park guy sounds a bit dodgy!

Looks like you are wearing glasses for the first few weeks at least!
