Question:

Eye doctors vs. people who sell eye glasses?

Isnt it true that eye doctors only know about the inner workings of eyes. And if you asked the eye doctor if an old prescription distorted your vision when you put them on they would say no because eye glasses are not their expertise?

Whereas people who sell eye glasses all day long would know if glasses that are not right on the persons eyes would distort their vision.

  1. Dear Brandon...

That is one of the dumbest remarks I have seen here for a long time.

As an optician...I took a 3 year college course in optics...I think I know a bit about lenses and eyes and prescriptions.

When you have no clue what you are talking about...the best thing to do is stay quiet.

  2. No, my eye doctor has been able to tell from old glasses they distorted my vision.

  3. Hi sweetie. I am an optician. I do know about the glasses and the lenses and I do interpret the prescription that the eye doctors write. I sell and make glasses all day. I have encountered people with lenses that are warped or not made right, as well as people with an old RX that gave them distorted vision. The thing is, if you need something else to see out of, as in a new RX anything but that will not give you good vision. Period. SO, your doctor really does not need to do anything with the old one you can not see out of anymore, the doctors focus will be to fix what is going on now, not over annylize things that do not work anymore. As an optician, I can take your RX and check out the glasses that were supposed to be made to that RX and tell you if it is made right or if it is warped, or if it has funky base curves or whatever needs to be fround out in trouble shooting a problem. As a certified optician I have had training and schooling in lenses, how they work, how to nake them, and how all the machines and insturments that pertain to them are opperated. You need to know that most optometrists know this as well. Some ophthalmologists know nothing about the opticianry stuff, but they do understand using the lenses to get good vision and how to refract and get a good pair of glasses to you. If you have your eye exam coming up you can take your old glasses in and have them look at them at the same time, but the thing is, it is highly unlikely that your old glasses made your eyes have distorted vision. It is most likely a normal change that would have happend becuase of your heredity and aging process, not something caused by a lens. Have a really happy day and know that there are some of us on here that do care about what is going on. SEE YA!

  4. the eye doctor knows about the whole eye AND the lenses. People who sell glasses dont know anything about the lenses or prescriptions. If they do, either they themselves are eye doctors, or an eye doctor told them so...

  5. despite what Brandon has said(I'm not sure what he's basing that on), People who sell glasses all day actually do know about the eyes and the lenses and how to read the prescriptions. So do the people in the lab who make the lenses, otherwise we'd all be blind. And Dr.s do know about the glasses and yes they can tell you if the glasses you are wearing are right.
