Eye exam in the US?

If i get my eyes tested in the US, do I have a right to get my perscription if I pay for the exam fee, or so I have to buy my glasses at where i get my eyes tested.

  1. You can do either. Some Ophthalmologists do not have an attached shop to sell glasses- they give you your correction, and you go to an Optician ( a GUILD optician,please) to get them. Most Ophthalmologists and Optometrists nowadays have the eyeglass shop right there, but you are under no obligation to get them there. If you do not like their selection of frames, or prices, just take the prescription and leave. Any other shop will honor the Rx. They make most of their money selling glasses, so you may feel a bit pressured to "look at" their selection. Look if you want, but remember you are not obliged to buy there.


  2. You have the right to your prescription if you paid for the exam. They can recomend that you buy from them but they can not force you to buy from them. They have to give you your prescription!!!!

  3. You can definately just go to any optical shop and get the exam, and take your rx with you.  Absolutely.  You paid for it!
