Eye getting 'flat' in front?

Question

I'm a 55 year old woman and noticed something strange about my eye. I used to have the 'normal' round eyes but now, my eyeball is looking and feeling 'flat' in front. Even my opthomologist says it is that way. Any ideas why? Can eyeballs change shape/form?
