Eye glasses problem in 40 to 50 years old?

My Mom's eye number are 0.5 (left eye) and 0.75 (right eye), both for far and near. She normally can read newspapers without wearing glasses but she needs to wear glasses to read printed materials with very small size for example books, but after wearing glasses 8 hours a day in job, she is not able to read big size printed materials including newspaper.

She always takes a break several times a day to do eye exercise but it seems that these are not so useful when some one is in 40 to 50s.

  1. Your mom must be an under corrected hyperope who needs more plus for reading,

The Dr. will adjust her distance vision correction and give additional help for near.

She is not myopic.  If she were myopic she wold take her lenses off for reading.

  2. Is she wearing Progressive Lenses?  Sometime they can help as the help the eyes accomodate a different distances.  I dont understand the 0.50 and 0.75 for both reading and distance.  Do these numbers have a - por + sign before them.  A - signs indicates a distance prescription, while a + sign indicates a mild reading prescription.  Are they single vision lenses?  Eye excersises are always beneficial, especially is someone is on a computer alot.  Taking breaks from the computer and focusing on a distance spot can often eleviate eye strain.

If you can, get back to me and let me know what kind of lenses they are.  Single vision, bifocal or progressive addition lenses.

    Take care :)
