Eye injury: Jacksonville Jaguars DT Terrance Knighton keen to return -NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive tackle, Terrance Knighton, says he cannot wait to return to the squad, but so far, no timeline has been set by any of the stakeholders regarding his return.
Knighton was injured in a nightclub fight between his friend and another member, which required him to have a surgery to repair the injury on his left eye.
Now the player says he aims to return to the team soon, which could be possible since he is reported to be recovering at a rate faster than the average time such injury consumes for healing.
He said:
"I really feel like I could be out there, but just taking it a step at a time."
Apart from the recovery and rehab woes, the player is lucky to have successfully avoided an action from the National Football League (NFL), while escaping charges in a court of law by police.
Jaguars earlier refused to confirm the incident but later reported it to be a fight at a local nightclub.
The management itself has refused to take any action against the player with regard to violation of the team's disciplinary rules.
A disciplinary action could have been very much likely given the new owner, Shahid Khan, had spoken of his aims of making the team a role model on and off the field.
Knighton’s actions were a clear violation of off-field discipline. The police claims that he and his friend had threatened to shoot people at the club, which are rather serious allegations and could have been used as basis for charging them.
One possible reason behind the player’s successful escape from a punishment could be the fact that he was not involved in the fight directly.
The player claimed that he was trying to break up the fight between his friend and another person and in the efforts, he got his eye injured.
Away from the entire situation, the player is now said to be focused on his return, which could well be before the start of training camp.
He is out of organised team activities (OTAs) but Jaguars new head coach, Mike Mularkey, is upbeat about his recovery and optimistic about earlier return.
