Eye injury forces DT Terrance Knighton to miss Jacksonville Jaguars’ workout-NFL news
Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive tackle, Terrance Knighton, who has recently been reported to be involved in a scuffle at a local nightclub, is set to miss the team’s offseason activities due to an eye injury that had resulted from the fight.
Knighton was hit on the eye with a bottle while trying to break up a fight involving his friend. He was eventually kicked out of the club and it was claimed that he had threatened to shoot people.
The team management first did not disclose much information around the reported eye injury but later confirmed it had stemmed from the fight at Pure Nightclub in Jacksonville. This was when the player through his tweets said to be present at the club.
He has undergone a medical procedure on the eye and is expected to sit out of the squad for next three months, which are marked with a number of offseason activities.
It is likely that the team might be looking for a replacement in his place as the forthcoming draft, scheduled from April 26 to 28, 2012, provides the management with a good opportunity to explore the option.
Jaguars’ general manager, Gene Smith, who admits to be uncertain about the player’s comeback from the surgery, also hinted at that possibility.
Smith said:
"Your needs certainly change daily. Going into the draft, we're optimistic that he'll come out of this well. But there's no definites. Our hope is he will. Going into the draft I feel very good about where he's at this point. I just don't know where he'll
be three months from now."
It is premature to ascertain the situation, but if the management goes with the option of a replacement, Knighton faces the possibility of being released before the start of the regular season.
Jaguars are going to start their offseason voluntary workout programme on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, without Knighton.
Jaguars’ coach, Mike Mularkey, who is going to oversee the team’s offseason activities for the first time, said of the player:
"With the injury, his inability to lift, run, do anything physical, he will not be involved in the offseason for at least the next three months."
He added:
"He is at home, trying to just heal. The healing process is going to take a while.”
The player had the eye surgery on April 08, 2012, and is expected to take a couple of months for recovery and rehab.
He might have some difficulties in remaining into shape during the time of recovery without much physical activity. He had joined the team during their workout session past season while being 20 pound overweight, but got into shape before the start of the
regular season.
