  1. cataract surgery is not such a dangerous and complicated surgery these days. most ophthalmologists do it by phacoemulsification,  which means faster surgery, less trauma to your eye (any surgery means trauma to any tissue, but it is temporary) and better vision in 2-3 days after surgery. Results are truly amazing, I have seen people with advanced cataract after surgery, and they always say they only saw this good when they were young. Modern IOL (intraocular lenses) are very good, biocompatible, and the surgeon calculates the diopters of the lens you need exactly before surgery. it can be done using local or general anesthesia and it usually lasts between 10 and 40 minutes. You can ask your doctor to explain to you the procedure, the possible complications and all the rest you need to know.

Phacoemulsification uses ultrasounds to break apart the lens in your eye and an aspirating-irrigating canula to extract if from the eye, with minimum incision and trauma to the eye. Patients usually recover vision within 1-2 days after surgery, from what i've seen (i'm a med student).

My advice is to not be scared: it will improve very much the quality of your life, your vision as well. Good luck!

  2. I'm not quite sure but are you talking about Cataract? Not sure on spelling either.
