  1. This is known as an ocular or ophthalmic migraine.  It can occur with or without headache.  Most of my patients report no headache.  We don't really know what causes it except that it's a vascular or neurological shift that sends the hallucinatory image.  There are some known triggers...chocolate, caffeine, cheese, red wine and others.  It is a harmless phenomenon....just annoying.

  2. I have those zigzag fluourescing lines in my eyes from time to time. They used  to precede a headache so I began taking a paracetomol capsule when they first began. Mine would start small, like a dot and then grow into a zigzag in between 5 and 15 minutes, always in a crescent shape, never a full circle and never in the centre of my vision. If I tried to look at them, they were always out of centre, I still get them but not the attendant headaches.

You can make them less frequent by increasing the refresh rate of your monitor. Right-click the desktop and click "Display Properties", on the box that appears, click "Settings", "Advanced", "Monitor" and "Refresh Rate". This is the frequency that your monitor refreshes the screen. Your computer will only display a refresh rate that is achieveable. Set it to the highest refresh rate shown, 75 hertz, and then just OK your way out. I hope that this helps, it helped me.

  3. It sounds like Visual Impairment Migraines, the catch being no headaches. It is extremely annoying and is normally caused by your eyes being fatigued and tired.

I was diagnosed with this several years ago by an Optometrist. It is not life threatning but get your eyes checked out to confirm this.

  4. Sounds like a migraine. Can happen without headache. However if the pattern that you are seeing does not go away but remains there permanently then you should seek immediate medical attention. This is unlikely.

  5. Ok this may just be a sign of fatigue. But if the symptoms happen often see an optician. You only have one pair of eyes so please look after them.
