  1. Here's the break down of the 20/20, 20/50, 20/70 numbers.

the first number is the distance that you can see a certain letter clearly.

So at 20 feet you can see a certain letter clearly.

The bottom number is the distance that someone with "perfect" vision can see that same letter clearly.

    So ....20/50 means...

You see that letter clearly at 20 feet.

The "perfect vision" patient can see that same letter at 50 feet.

You will need an EYE exam to further determine your prescription. Those tests at the doctors office are just a Screening to estimate how good or bad your vision is.

  2. You need to get an eye exam by an optometrist, they will give you a prescription for glasses.

Yes, you do need glasses to help you see far away. Your going to wear them when you drive, go to the movies, baseball games, anywhere you need to see far away. Take them off when you use the computer and read. You can go to your doctor and ask them to show you what your glasses are going to look like. They can take your prescription and put it in a temporary frame that the doctor uses just for this, and show you what your vision will be like when you get glasses.
