Well not really but THEY COULD!

Hi I am fourteen and I wear glasses. In uk my eyesight is about -3. something. So it is bad but not really bad. Just not good lool. I dont wear my glassses only during lessons and watching t.v and when people see me I dont know it is them as I cant see them so I dont wave/smile or anything and I come across as shallow/s****./rude. So what should I do? I cant get contacts till I am sixteen. I look better without my glasses on so what can I do? I am not putting myself in danger as I can still see cars/bikes etc etc but just not like be able to read the car name plates easily.

  1. Do a search for "Bates method".

  2. if you really care that much, then just wear the glasses. If your friends are true friends they can accept the fact that you need to wear glasses to see them, properly. You don't need to be worrying too much about how you look now, since you're only 14. Try to wear the glasses til you're 16. But if you really don't want to wear the glasses then you'll just have to ignore the fact that they're going to think of you as shallow/s****./rude or whatever. Maybe you can explain to them about your situation?

  3. Hi

I totally understand where you're coming from, i'm 15 and only got contacts 3 months ago. I'm assuming you're parents won't let you get contacts because you can get them at 14. I had the same problem so I did some research and proved to my dad that contacts are in fact better for your eyes and eyesight. I also mentioned how cheap they are at opticians such as specsavers. If your parents are still in doubt, go along to the optitician and ask for their opinion.

If there is nothing that can be done, get some frames which suit you and which you feel comfortable in, and wear your glasses because your eyesight can get worse if you don't. That's what happened to me.

I never used to be able to read number pates either lol I know how you feel.

  4. Wear glasses, quit caring about what others think, they dont feed you, pay you, or house, you so it doesnt matter what they think.

  5. I had exactly the same problem for a while! I must have spent at least two years not seeing properly...until I got contacts a few months ago.

Even though I really can sympathise with you about not wanting to wear glasses (I never did!), you really should you know!

  6. Just wear the glasses. the shame of it is a problem for you.

i say wear the glasses and work through your insecurities. ul feel tons better. and mite even make u stronger!

  7. I tihnk your just being awkward. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I don't mean to be.

But as I see it you are just creating problems for your eyes in later life by not wearing your glasses.

Do  whats good for your eyes and wear your glasses and then you'll find that people will start being your friend again as you'll be able to see them to wave/smile to.

  8. Easy.  get some good looking frames, and then you won't be embarrassed to wear glasses.

Sounds like you are too worried about your appearance anyway. Glasses make you look smart, not ugly.

  9. hi

i am also fourteen and i wear glasses ,

my eyes are slightly worse but not too dissimilar to yours

i am not exactly popular but i have a large group of friends both close and casual. Not wearing my glasses does make me feel better about myself but it has gotten me into trouble before ( the whole snobbish thing and also getting the wrong bus :[ oops)  but i think that wearing them although it makes me feel low on self esteem

My friends know the real me and i think that if they only liked the me who doesn't wear glasses then basically s***w them .

But more importantly i told my optician that i needed contacts for sporting needs and after a few complaints he started me off with some contact lenses which i can wear occasionally :)
