Question:

Eyebrow Piercing Hurts...?

This is a little odd....

I've had my eyebrow pierced for at least 4 years now. I can interchange the gauge size from 14g to 16g (not a big difference). It was originally pierced (professionally) at 14g, and that is the size barbell that's in it now.

Anyways, I clean it regularly and I don't touch it with dirty hands. But now, it hurts. If I accidentally bump it, or even when I sleep, it throbs for hours. It's clean & I haven't changed the barbell (except to take it out and clean it) for at least 8 months!

What could this be?

  1. Some of my well healed piercing get a little sore from time to time. I usually find it happens when I'm run down, over tired or about to get sick. If the soreness is the only thing wrong with it, I wouldn't worry about it too much, it should clear up in a few days to a week.

If you can, I would stop by your piercer's and have them take a look at it (or any piercing studio if you don't have a specific piercer).  They would be better able to see what's going on by talking to you in person and taking a look at it.

  2. Your piercing may be trying to "grow out". It happens a while after the area is pierced, generally for a few years.  What happens is the piercing is a surface wound, and your skin tries to heal it.  Literally, your skin will push the ring or barbell completely out or the piercing will not be as deep or lower than before.  My skin is so fast to heal, I cannot take my piercings out for more than 30 mins or they close for good.

I suggest either you keep it gauged at 14g and no more 16g, or you just let it grow out.

  3. the highter the gauge number, the less painful so do that.

  4. see a doctor.

  5. Same thing happens with my industrial. Sometimes if you sleep on it it'll hurt in the morning. But yeah thats all i can say, maybe go back to the piercer and ask whats wrong?

  6. This is really strange.

Maybe you should put some antibiotic on and go to the doctors...

You can't mess with your body like that...

  7. That'll teach you go poke holes in yourself.

Sounds infected though, or could be contamination or just getting dry.  Are you working around food, chopping peppers, onions?

Clean it, put some neosporin on it and keep it clean.

  8. see your doctor

  9. Maybe you're allergic to the metal.  That's my problem, anyway.  I had 4 ear lobe piercings and one in my cartilage, and any time anything would touch my ear it would hurt like crazy.  Although if you have earrings and you're just fine, this probably isn't the problem.
