Eyeglasses or sunglasses uv coating?

Can prescription or non prescription glasses lose their uv coating from the sun, pool or washing with soap/water- thanks

  1. No, the UV protection can't wash off.

    It isn't actually a coating anyway.

    If your lenses are regular plastic, then the UV protection was added by submersing the lenses in the hot UV solution . So the solution is absorbed right through the lenses, just like the color is.

    If your lenses are Polycarbonate, then no UV was added because the material itself blocks UV rays.

    So, either way, it isn't a surface coating that can wash off.


  2. I don't think so.  I've been a glasses wearer a long time and have never heard of UV coating to wash away.  As long you use mild soap and if possible, glasses cleaner without harsh chemicals, you should be okay.  I think they were designed to withstand a lot of sun exposure.
