I've been reading some of the questions on here and people keep responding eye don't change color in the matter of hours or minutes, it takes years-- I am currently 17, I am mixed [mostly African American] I have hazel eyes --mostly green and brown some yellow] When I am very upset my eyes change from hazel to solid green and ocassionally brown. When I was in middle school --8th grade to be exact, my first day I was sitting accross from a girl and she looked at me shocked then loudly stated, "OMG your eyes just changed color".. I've always wondered why eyes change color and what the reason behind it is becuase it DOES happen..

  1. Hazel eyes tend to be more green on the outside, and browner close to the center. When you get upset, your pupils may get bigger, which means that the brown part of the eye isn't as visible, and your eyes look greener. That's probably what's happening.

  2. my eyes are a blueish greenish grey with yellow in them

    they change on the daily

  3. That is two different things you are talking about. A permanent change in the iris color is often seen in elderly people as some of the pigmentation is lost and the eyes become lighter....that happens over many years.

But you mean changing back and forth, which is fairly common actually. Many people have eyes that change colors over a few hours.

My daughter in law has bright blue eyes in the mornings, then by early afternoon they have gone green, then to a pale blue in the evenings or on cloudy days.

I know 3 other people that it happens to also.

So, it certainly does happen. Most of the responses I have seen to questions about it are from people who have the same thing, or know someone who does.

There is nothing wrong with the eyes, and it is nothing to worry about. Just be happy that you are special.

  4. Your eyes aren't changing color. It's probably just a lighting thing.

  5. my eyes change color too. im not exactaly sure why but i think its very weird

  6. I put this question to an opthamologist once, because I also have hazel eyes which do apparently change color at times. His explanation was that the exact mechanism is a bit complicated. For starters, color is a matter of melanin fiber concentration on the iris. Since we have green/brown eyes, we already have some variation in that. They also know that things like blood perfusion in the eye can affect that, so sickness or mood can come into play. Color perception also depends on ambient lighting on our eyes, and the interplay of that with the clothing and makeup we wear. So it's really hard for them to pinpoint exactly what is going on to account for the changes. Our eyes can change color due to medication and age as well. I had thought color was a matter of genetics alone, determined by one of the two genes you inherited from your parents- but according to him it's a LOT more complicated that that. I found one site with some good explanations, http://www.eyecarecontacts.com/eyecolor....

pretty much says the same thing. Eye color is a lot more involved than it appears- just another wonder of the body.
