Just curious if this was normal...when i close my left eye, my right eye is very clear, almost 20/20 vision. But when i close my right eye, my left eye is weaker in eyesight, just by a bit. I see things in the smallest way blurry. i can still read from far away with my left eye, but it is slightly, slightly fuzzy. My right is much stronger and clear. However, when i open both eyes and see with both, my eyes have very clear vision. Is this normal?

  1. yes, i have the exact same thing. you have very clear vision when both eyes are open because your brain mostly relies on vision from your right eye because it's your dominant/stronger eye. also, ive noticed that when i put my hand in front of my right eye without changing the focus of my eyes, my left eye will be out of focus which means my left eye is almost always out of focus. i think the reason it goes out of focus is because when my left eye is in focus, it sees things farther away than my right eye sees them, so it needs to "zoom in" to compensate and adjust to my dominant eye. of course even when i do focus my left eye, it still cant see very clearly.

i dont think its a big deal because you still have near perfect vision with both eyes open, but if your left eye gets worse over time, you may want to consider getting glasses or occasionally wearing an eye patch to exercise your weak eye.

  2. You are meant to use both eyes. If you are having some difficulty with your left eye, perhaps a trip to an optometrist will result in a minor prescription for that eye. It is funny, when people come to see me they very often complain of "one eye being weaker" I ask them "but how is your vision when BOTH eyes are open? More ofthen than not it is perfect. We all have a dominant eye. The key is to know that you meant to use BOTH eyes and they are meant to work together. If it really bothers you, see your optometrist.

    Take care :)
