Ezequiel Garay has moved to Benfica as a make weight in the deal for Fabio Coentrao and according to former secretary of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
“He is a footballer that can play in any team in the world. Benfica will be happy with Garay and Garay will be happy at Benfica. He did not triumph at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid because he did not have assistance strength like media players.” Merino said while talking
to the media.
"He is shy, introverted, it makes bombastic statements: what he does best is his work. He is an excellent person. He had more than enough capacity and skill to triumph at Real Madrid, but he lacked the support media,” he further added.
Merino was responsible for bringing the talented youngster from the Argentine league to the Spanish top flight and he was full of praise for his former protégé, saying:
"Ezequiel Garay has to be a starter in football for any team in the world."
Garay started out with Newell Old Boys and moved up the ranks to become an integral part of the first team. The 24-year-old made 12 appearances for the Argentine club and scored once before moving to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 with Racing Santander in 2005.
Although a centre-back rarely find the back of net, Garay gained ravenous reviews as he notched an incredible 9 goals in 31 outings for the Cantabria side. A leg injury dented his impact later on but he firmly established himself as a first choice defender
with the Highlanders.
His impressive displays were rewarded when he was bought by Spanish giants, Real Madrid, only to be loaned back to Racing for the remainder of the season. After returning to the club, he found himself demoted in the pecking order under the reign of Jose
Mourinho and could not garner much playing time.
The move to the Eagles for Garay comes at a very good time, as he is yet to play a string of games since his departure from Racing. But whether he can replicate his once famous goal-scoring feats in the Portuguese Primeira Liga remain to be seen.
