The Argentine star has admitted that he expected his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 threat, at the same time he has warned his players against complacency.
The Argentinean was a pivotal cog in Nicolo Frustalupi’s team which trounced Chelsea 3-1 in the first-leg of the last 16 round of UEFA Champions League.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ezequiel-Lavezzi-c13073 scored a brace to provide the Naples based side with a comfortable advantage ahead of their return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 14th.
The match was enterprising and had numerous counter attacking manoeuvres employed by both sides. Chelsea took the lead thanks to Juan Mata’s 27th minute strike, but Napoli made a remarkable recovery
to seal an impressive win.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Lorenzo-c40436 star admitted that his team played according to the plan and exploited the weaknesses of the opposition.
“Chelsea scored a bit of a lucky goal after we had been in charge up to that point. Fortunately we equalised pretty quickly and avoided getting too anxious, then reacted the way we did. We played a great game and forced Chelsea’s
defenders into many mistakes that we took advantage of.”
Lavezzi has admitted that he “expected a victory” and insists that his side was beaming with self-belief going into the match. However, the Argentine was quick to dismiss any signs of being arrogant, and conceded that the Blues
are a strong unit and the tie is not over as yet.
The 26-year-old replied to a question about their plan of action for the game by saying:
“The Coach told us to help out the team with our defensive movement. We all gave a hand at the back, because that’s what we needed to have a great game. I’d say we achieved it.”
The former Estudiantes forward added that his team will have to make sure that they play to the best of their abilities in the return fixture. He insists that they will need to breach the Chelsea defence
at least once to give themselves a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals.
