Ezequiel Lavezzi welcomes La Liga stint
Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi is looking forward to playing in the Spanish La Liga in the future. The Argentine said in an interview that he will likely excel in the top-tier league.
"I would love to play in Spain. I like the league and believe my playing style suits it," Lavezzi told the Spanish television show Play Futbol.
Lavezzi, however, clarified that he is happy playing for Napoli.
"A player dreams of always playing and winning everything one day, both on a personal and club level. I am at Napoli and thinking of giving my all to the team," he said.
The 25-year-old Lavezzi spent his youth years with Boca Juniors, where he played from 1995 to 2003. He moved to Estudiantes de Buenos Aires in 2003, scoring 17 goals in 39 matches.
Lavezzi was bought by Italian side Genoa in 2004 but he was immediately loaned to Argentine side San Lorenzo. He was supposed to return to Genoa in 2005 but the Italian club was relegated to the third-tier
league after being involved in a match-fixing scandal.
He was eventually sold to San Lorenzo for 1.2 million euros. He made 55 appearances with the club and scored 16 goals.
In 2007, Lavezzi was bought by Napoli, which was promoted to the Serie A after finishing runners-up in the Serie B the previous season. He signed a five-year deal with the Italian side.
Lavezzi achieved success in Napoli. He scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over Pisa in the Italian Cup, becoming the first Napoli player to achieve the feat in 14 years.
He also led the Neapolitan club to a 5-0 thrashing of Udinese, the club's largest winning margin since 1988. Lavezzi quickly turned into a fan favourite in Napoli for his scoring prowess.
Lavezzi was a member of the victorious 2008 Olympic team but failed to make Diego Maradona's 23-man squad to this year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
