  1. Foster was one of the best lightheavys ever, but he did not beat the good heavys, Charles did. So I have to go with Charles on this fight.

  2. foster's record is exemplary, 2 losses in his first two pro years, and apart from his final 2 fights, the rest to heavyweights, including 2 greats!!

charles , like foster, took on everybody--regardless of weight.

styles make fights, and charles had ageless archie's number 3 times, including an 8th round ko.

despite fosters tremendous punching power, i don't see him knocking charles out -- unless he catches him like walcott did in their 3rd encounter.....but if it goes the distance then charles will wear him down and will be stronger in the later rounds to take the decision over foster.

  3. Ezzard Charles of course was once a light heavywewight and an outstanding one that no doubt would have been a champion at that weight class had he not moved up to heavyweight.  Charles was an outstanding boxer with fast hands, and good power fighting such men as Marciano, Moore, Walcott, among many others.  Foster was one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time (2nd on my list) It was when he went up to heavyweight that he usually lost like to Frazier and Ali.  He had height, reach and a pulverizing right hand.  I believe Charles was a little too fast and strong for Foster and would wear him down finally knocking him out in 9 rounds of a hard fought fight.

  4. Good fight.  The one thing they both have in common is that they were both crushed by two other fighters who are often compared to each other.   Rocky Marciano and Joe Frazier.

The big difference here is that,  while Charles stood up to Rocky, going the distance once and being stopped in 8 in the other,  Foster caved in to Frazier in 2.  There lies the big difference.   Charles is simply more rugged than Foster.

Foster can hurt any LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT he can his cleanly.  However,  Charles,  though a natural at Lt. Heavyweight,   fought ALL the best fighters between Middle and Heavy.  He beat most of them.  Bob Foster didnt do so well.   To his credit,  he fought better heavyweights.  Those guys (Ali, Frazier) would have beaten Charles too.

Still,  the outcome is clear.   Charles will take a little punishment.  However,  he will quickly figure out how much Foster relies on the right hand and gaining leverage to launch it.   Ezzard will take away that leverage.   He will force Foster to FIGHT.    Charles can do it all.   He's as good as Larry Holmes,  (who is one of the best),  only he's smaller than Larry.

Doesnt matter here.  Charles will be big enough to get the job done.

    Charles by KO in 8
