Robert Kubica making good progress
There’s good news for Robert Kubica’s fans: the Polish is making rapid progress after he underwent a major operation on Sunday, following his crash during a rally race in Italy.
The F1 ace sustained multiple fractures to his right arm, hand and leg and lost a lot of blood following the accident.
Although the 26-year-old will remain in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the next three days, the doctors are pleased with his recovery so far.
Head of the ICU at the Santa Corona Hospital Giorgio Barabino stated, “His conditions have improved and are good, considering the crash, no infections have arisen in the post-surgery phase. The limb is well vascularised and his life parameters are all within
the norm.”
Kubica will undergo further surgeries on his right elbow in the coming days.
Former Renault F1 boss, Flavio Briatore visited Kubica in the hospital and predicted that the driver will be back in action within six months. He also claimed that Kubica will be racing for Lotus Renault during the 2011 season.
However, Barabino has stated that it may take more than a year for the Polish driver to recover from his injury. He said that Kubica may be able to recover partially from the accident within a few months, but a full recovery will require more time.
Meanwhile, Lotus Renault is yet to announce a replacement for Kubica. It is likely that the team may go with Bruno Senna for the season, but it will like to have an experienced driver in the line-up.
Lotus Renault had good expectations for the 2011 season; they had developed a unique exhaust system appreciated by many teams who copied it.
The unavailability of Kubica may affect Lotus Renault's chances for the season. The team will be praying for his quick recovery, so that he can get behind the wheels of his car as soon as possible.
