Question:

F-22 Raptor or a su-47??

This is an ongoing debate.

Many ppl believe the F-22's stealth, supercruise, and excellent stability is enough to the victor.

Others believe the su-47 (which has a radar signature the size of Rhode Island) having the ability to fly backwards for a few moments and do a few fancy maneuvers is enough to make it the supreme victor.

I clearly vote the Raptor .

(also the su-47 has a bad rep when it comes to stalling at the worst times)

  1. Again, it is no contest... it's not about supercruise, or maneuverability  You put on headphones and a blindfold and I give you a pistol,  I get a baseball bat and you never get to see or hear me coming...  how are you going to win even with superior weaponry??  You CAN'T find the F-22 to fight it. If you could find it.. then you might have a chance to defeat it... but not only is it up there and you don't know where... but there is an E-3 telling the F-22 where YOU are.

You can't fight what you can't see.  Game Over.

  2. F-22

  3. This is asked every few days. The best production fighter ever made versus a one off that is fun to watch at air shows.

  4. No doubt the F22 is superior...i'd rather have the sr71 blackbird though....definately can't fight what you can't catch!

  5. here you go. I answered same question a little while back. here my answer copy& pasted from here:

i would vouch for F-22 however.

    why?

its an american aircraft. No rather, its NOT a russian aircraft, which means the technology, the materials, the durability, the avionics, the weapons, etc. are of much better quality.

it will probably last longer too.

the F-22 will stay in america where the pilots and maintenance personal are much more qualified and will treat an F-22 well.

the F-22 can employ every weapon in the NATO inventory but the Su-47 has not been certified as so. (russian weapons have severe launch limitations)

In terms of combat, I don't see what the problem is with the F-22. Everything is fine. Its combination of speed maneuverability, avionics, weapons are well capable of killing a Su-47.

The su-47 can perform a variety of maneuvers and can exceed 9Gs.

However, it doesn't mean the pilot will be able to survive more then 9Gs for any amount of time that is tactically advantageous. Nor are the weapons that the Su-47 employs able to be launched during most of the maneuvers that the Su-47 can perform.

Its maneuverability is supposedly better than any other aircraft. That is most probably true. However, it is an unproven concept (froward-swept wings) and who knows what problems will arise later. For one thing, they still have not fixed the likelihood of the wing tips getting ripped off during high G maneuvering.

It has a certain level of stealthiness, but certainly not the same stealthiness of an F-22. A coat of radar absorbent paint and some radar absorbent materials does not make an aircraft very stealthy whereas the F-22 was designed with stealth kept in mind every step of the process.

h**l, its still experimental, whereas the F-22 is cleared for production.

In addition with all the support hardware that the US has, like AWACS, UCAVS, satellites, subs, other aircraft, the Su-47 will be dead before it sees the F-22 100 nautical miles away about to launch a FRAAM or LRAAM or even an AMRAAM-D up his *ss.

It won't even be able to get close to any US assets without the US knowing.
