Fédération Internationale d'Escrime unveils the rankings for 2012 London Olympics qualification: Fencing News
The International Fencing Federation of Fencing, Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE), updated the rankings after the World Cup events that were held during the month of April and May, 2011. FIE updated the list last time on April 1, 2011. FIE will
decide about the fencer’s qualification for 2012 London Olympics on the basis of points taken during 2010-11 World Cup events.
Chinese Sheng Lei is leading the Men’s Foil ranking with the highest 246 points. On April 1, He took 242 points that were calculated from the events played before April 1. Two World Cup events, including SK Telecom Trophy, Seoul and Men’s Foil Grand Prix,
were conducted during the month of May. Lie lost in the table-16 in the both events and was ranked ninth. Lie gained 12 points during Men’s Foil Grand Prix on May 9 while he lost eight points during SK Telecom Trophy on May 20. Lie retained the first place
in overall rankings with additional four points. Lie was ranked second in 2009-10 rankings.
Japanese Yuki Ota was in second position on April 1 rankings, but he could not retain that place. With a loss of 56 points he dropped down to fifth position whereas, United State’s Miles Chamley-Watson improved his performance. Although he lost eight points,
but he still jumped up to the second place from third spot with 184 points. Italian Andrea Baldini and Andrea Cassara amazingly jumped upward into top-5 list. Baldini won the gold medal after defeating Great Britain’s Richard Kruse in SK Telecom Trophy.

2. Miles Chamley-Watson from United States with 184 points
3. Andrea Baldini from Italy with 170 points
4. Andrea Cassara from Italy with 165 points
5. Yuki Ota from Japan with 154 points
6. Byung Chul Choi from Korea with 152 points
7. Peter Joppich from Germany with 148 points
8. Richard Kruse from Great Britain with 140 points
9. Erwan Le Pechoux from France with 134 points
10. Victor Sintes from France with 133 points
