If some of the F-14s were replaced by F/A-18Es, what's the role of the two-seat F/A-18F model?

If the E model can do whatever the F can, why have the two seat F model?

  1. The back seater is the Weapon System's Officer.  Will have similar duties as the back seater in the F-14.  The two seater F model can be configured with stick and throttle for training purposes.  Also a version of the F/A-18F will be designated F/A-18G "Growler", an electronic warfare aircraft to replace the EA-6B Prowler.

  2. To train new pilots.

  3. They are trying to make one aircraft  do the work of three. It can be a forward air controller a recon plane a bomber a fighter, anything. Those pilots are already doing to much they need a backseater. Look at the accident rates. Thats what happens when you have 900 hour pilots flying those things.

  4. I think all of the F14's are gone.
