F1 2010™ game is expected to rock Formula One fans!
Formula One videogames have always been considered to be tough to design as they involve a number of complex depictions and graphics. Consequently, very few game designers take the bold step of making a Formula One game and still fewer can make it with such accuracy and precision as the F1 2010™.
This game employs various tools for manufacturing cars, weather changes, varying track surfaces and grip levels for cars. Plus, there are certain other factors that have a very important role to play such as the paddock atmosphere and the media. While designing this latest Formula One game, all these major as well as other minute details have been taken care of.
Stephen Hood, the chief designer of the game talked to the Formula One official website, informing about the details regarding the game, its designing process and various other features.
Stephen started off telling that the game had taken a total period of eighteen months for its completion, involving a large number of people - reaching to a peak of 104 people stationed at the game studio in Birmingham.
Hood further explained that the game was a challenging one, right from its first step which was its design. The time and budget constraints were all ignored to develop a masterpiece that would be remembered for long time. The game has several other special features like the dynamic weather system, natural track features and above all the ‘Live the Life’ portion of the game.
The chief designer further explained that a lot of data collection was done before the final work started on the game so that it could be as close to reality as possible. He explained this by saying that hundreds of thousands of photographs of all the tracks were taken so that no side or angle was missed - even the location of every single tree, the advertising boards on the track side and the run off areas are accurately made. Moreover, extensive work has been carried on the topography and skyline near the tracks to give the same atmosphere and feeling to the player.
While explaining the exceptional features of the game, Hood exclaimed that all previous F1 or other auto race games make the video game player feel to be driving a car rather than as a driver. However, for the first time, this game would rather make him feel like a true F1 driver.
Special attention has been given to ensure that the driver can interact directly on radio with the race engineers in order to remain updated with what is happening on track along with having the information of his teammate and the weather conditions.
The ‘Live the Life’ feature of the game takes the gamer a step beyond the game as the gamer can feel himself in the driver’s racing boots right from the Paddock.
Furthermore, two different kinds of media functions are included in the F1 2010. Firstly, the driver is introduced with the formal press conference, which goes just like the one seen on TV after qualifying and the race. The second media function is related to spontaneous media spurts that are present round the clock near the Paddock. The answers one gives to them will have a direct effect on the racing career and image building in the game.
Stephen Hood concluded the interview by stating that what excites him the most is the fact that the players can experience the drama and thrill of actual pit stops. He explained that, “You will get those moments of tension in the pits when you need that perfect stop in order to maintain a lead or maybe steal a place.”
Well, the race fans are surely electrified with all that is in the market regarding F1 2010™ but will the race actually deliver is a matter in the hands of formula one gamers.
