F1 GP Auto Racing - Can Ferrari strike Red In Turkey?
Another pit-stop in the F1 circuit: this time in the beautiful city lying on the shores of the Bosphorus in Turkey. All eyes will be on Red Bull’s Mark Webber to see if he can make it three race wins in a row in this season. Although Webber has been preparing for the Turkish grand prix, he has been enveloped in a series of speculations regarding his future at Red Bull. Yet taking no nonsense from the media, Webber has said his sole concentration right now was winning a hat-trick in Turkey. Winning the race in Turkey would mean adding additional points to his already growing tally table of seventy eight points.
Currently, Webber is the one leading the driver’s bandwagon, after posting convincing victories in the principality of Monaco and also in Spain. Former greats of the game Moss, Brabham, Prost and Mansell have lauded the performance of Webber in the Monaco grand prix and suddenly Weber has been catapulted to the centre of all media attention. Webber too was pleasantly surprised after gaining all this attention, as prior to this media speculation was mostly centered around; Michael Schumacher’s return to the sport with a new team McClaren. Even though this newly found media tizzy is uplifting, Webber is being careful not to get carried away with it and concentrate more on his races and of course his title bid. Both Webber and his Red Bull team mate Sebastian Vettel have one goal in mind and that is to ultimately win the title for this season.
This however, is the side of the story of one driver, there are many more on the circuit who are ever worried about their future, and one of them is the man in red, who had earlier miraculously escaped from the jaws of death, Felipe Massa. Turkey is a lucky circuit for this 29 year old Latin American, who has won three years in a row from 2006 to 2008. Hence this time he would want to come out onto the circuit and remake history. Massa himself believes in the magic of history and claims his previous successes would egg him on to win the race. It is a momentum that has been created by the preceding wins that would help him give his best performance ever.
Currently, Massa is ranked number fifth in the title race, and two spots ahead of him is his team mate Fernando Alonso. This grand prix would not only be a nostalgic one for Massa but also for his team Ferrari, who would be celebrating its 800th grand prix appearance ever since coming on the circuit. Could this be another factor that would push Ferrari drivers beyond their limit to celebrate this feat in style?
Massa’s team mate Alonso, has had a very erratic start in this year’s championship. Nevertheless he too is feeling confident that the team would put up a good challenge. However despite his inconsistency, Alonso is still at the number three spot, so he feels there is no need to fear and the championship title is within sight.
Last year’s winner and Britain’s blue eyed boy Jenson Button too needs to push up his game and prove his mettle this season. He feels their advantage in the race would be the new upgrades they have gotten for this race. All eyes also turn to the dramatic comeback of Michael Schumacher that still has not been able to bear any fruit. The former World Champion too feels that the requisite upgrades to his Mercedes will play a major role in Turkey. Schumacher would be desperately looking for a win as he is down to the number ninth spot in the title race. With the grand prix fast approaching, it seems as if the field is wide open and it could be anyone’s game.
