F1 McLaren Team: Our car is strong and reliable
McLaren have been quite aggressive to deny all the accusations against its MP4-25. Any speculations that it is not a very strong car and even the slightest contact with it could send it out of the race has been
nullified by the team.
The speculations did not come out without reasons. The last few incidents forced everybody in the sport to think this way as it was always McLaren walking out of the race when two cars collided while the other kept moving on.
Earlier this season, at the Belgium Grand Prix, Jenson Button had to walk out of the race pointless as poor driving of Sebastian Vettel made his car slip and collide with the McLaren driver. However, the faulty driver kept moving
on while Button’s car was forced out of the race after being damaged.
Similarly, at the last race in Singapore Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton collided as the two battled for third place of the race. Following the collision the Red Bull driver kept cruising through the track while the McLaren driver
had to pack his race.
Following these two major, and a few other minor incidents many reporters and analysts reckoned that the McLaren car is not strong enough to face even the slightest of collisions which are inevitable on the racing tracks.
While negating all such accuses, the McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale stated that there is "nothing fragile about the car".
He further told that he is not even concerned about the reliability or the toughness of the car as he is already pretty sure about this.
Neale further stated, "I think that it's unfortunate that this happened and Lewis has made contact. Obviously we're very disappointed about that and so is Lewis.”
However, he was happy to add that Hamilton was a superb driver and the team has all confidence in him. He continued telling that small incidents like the last race cannot discourage him for he is a born great racer and will be
successful again in no time.
On the other hand, while talking about the car he proclaimed that in Formula One cars are not made with the aim to stand ‘a Red Bull torpedo’; they are always a little hazardous.
However, at the last race, the wheel of the MP4-25 broke, resulting in a flat tyre and thus packing the day for the Briton.
This poor finish of Hamilton marked the third retirement of the 26 year old driver in the last four races.
