F1 News: Fernando Alonso ready to welcome Sebastian Vettel
Spaniard Fernando Alonso has claimed that the inclusion of German driver Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari will not be a problem for him.
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo hinted that Sebastian Vettel would be in a Ferrari car in near future. In reply to that, Alonso said that he would welcome this move. Vettel became the youngest-ever Formula 1 champion this season while Alonso finished
second.
Talking about the statement of Montezemolo, Alonso said, “I'm not afraid of Vettel, should he come to Ferrari one day, it won't be a problem.”
In 2007, Alonso was a teammate to Lewis Hamilton at McLaren and both the drivers were involved in infighting. Due to the clash, both of them were unable to win the title. Kimi Raikkonen took advantage of the situation and won the championship.
Infighting is also not new to Vettel. During the 2010 season, he had many clashes with Australian teammate Mark Webber. Vettel eventually went on to win the championship but Webber claimed that the team did not support him fully.
There will be stiff competition amongst Alonso and Vettel if both the drivers line-up for the same team. It may also be difficult for the Ferrari team to handle them.
Alonso further said, “I'm not afraid to face any team-mate, I've never feared any of them. None of my team-mates have ever finished a season with more points than I have, so I don't see why I should be afraid of anyone.”
Time will tell whether Alonso and Vettel would be together in the same team or not. Both the drivers are currently racing for different teams. Alonso is confident that Ferrari will develop a strong car for 2011 season. He said, “I have no doubts that next
year Ferrari will build the car that I want. We are already very excited about it.”
The Red Bull Racing team Principal Christian Horner was confident that Vettel would stay with the same team and he will not let him go away.
