F1 News: McLaren driver Jenson Button officially out of the drivers’ championship chase
After another disappointing finish for the British driver Jenson Button, the reigning world champion is now mathematically out of the chase for the Formula 1 drivers’ title and it seems that he has no other choice but to help his teammate and fellow British
driver Lewis Hamilton in his title run at the grand finale in Abu Dhabi.
Jenson Button is now 47 points adrift of the current championship leader Fernando Alonso while his teammate is just 24 points behind. Jenson has been trying his best and stating race after race that he was going to get aggressive but he just does not have
the aggressiveness that Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel have in them. Even though the defending world champion was never in a comfortable position and desperately needed to score some vital wins, he was unable to give the “aggressive” performance
he vowed and it seems that if Jenson Button keeps things up, he has no chance of surviving amongst such aggressive young drivers.
Button is one of those people who like to keep it safe and drive smoothly without any risks. That is not how a driver can win a championship these days and with the new points system and rules and regulations, the drivers have to take risks to keep themselves
alive in the drivers’ standings.
After a disappointing fifth place finish, Button was able to secure only 10 points while his teammate finished in 4th place behind the championship leader to secure 12 points. Because of this lousy performance by the McLaren drivers, McLaren has
lost the constructors’ title as the two Red Bulls stunned the crowd with their 5th 1-2 finish. The drivers’ standings leader Fernando Alonso is trailing Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel by just 8 and 15 points respectively now.
With just 1 week remaining before the grand finale that is expected to take place in Abu Dhabi, McLaren must come up with something to challenge the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari if they want to win the drivers’ title miraculously as Lewis Hamilton is now
McLaren only hope for the 2010 Formula 1 season.
