F1 News: Michael Schumacher adamant to stay and prove himself in 2011 season
Ideally, all the perfect ingredients, put together accurately, must make an excellent dish. However, this might not be true always, as witnessed this season at Formula One. The seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, winner
of 2009 Constructor’s Championship Brawn GP, the Formula One guru Ross Brawn, and the lord of German cars Mercedes-Benz was the best combination one could have imagined. All the names when put together, spell success and victory, yet Mercedes GP failed to
live up to the expectations.
With nine months of the year already gone the Mercedes’ dream seems to fail thus flattening the hype and fanfare created earlier this year at the return of Schumacher. The most successful racer of Formula One history currently stands timidly at tenth place
in Drivers’ Standings, having bagged just 46 points with only four races left for the season.
The way the season has unfolded is a complete surprise for all the fans of the German veteran as they now think that the racer might/should not be seen in next year’s season.
However, his team boss, Ross Brawn still seems confident for next season saying that they hope to do much better in 2011.
Brawn talked to Formula One’s official website earlier today proclaiming his aspirations for the next season also confirming that the racer is to remain with the team in 2011 as well.
He started off by telling he admits the fact that the season was a tough one for the entire team but above all it served a good amount of stress and disappointment to Schumacher, who returned to the track after a gap of three years.
However, Brawn added that the best thing that he has to tell to the Champion’s fans is that he is enjoying the challenge like ever before.
He told, “He definitely doesn’t come to a race wishing to be somewhere else. He wants to work with the engineers, wants to find solutions and is extremely motivated.”
Brawn was brave enough to accept the fact that the way the season has unfolded, does make Schumacher a bit frustrated yet everyone knows that he is a very ambitious person which he has proved by winning seven titles earlier.
The German has always been famous to get the most out of tyres, but this year his trademark ‘wonders’ have not been seen all through the year. One major reason for that is Bridgestone’s 2010-spec rubber which did not work well
with his driving style.
Brawn expanded his statement saying, “Michael’s driving style depends on a strong front tyre that can withstand his hard braking and the steering manoeuvres that he prefers,” he continued telling. “I have to say that this year’s
front tyre is very uncommon. Next year we expect the Pirelli tyres will work better for Michael’s driving style. In 2011 all drivers start from zero, so any disadvantage Michael might have will disappear.”
One major reason of the immense criticism faced by the 91-time Grand Prix winner, all through the season was his much younger team mate, Nico Rosberg; Rosberg has performed far better right from the start of the season, being able
to bag three podiums and earn 122 points. However, Brawn believes that this is because Rosberg is better tuned to use these tyres. He hopes that with Pirelli taking over next season, the ‘old Schumacher’ would be seen on the track once again.
He proudly announced that preparations for an improved 2011 car, MGP-W01 are already underway which would take the team back to its apex.
Brawn concluded telling, “Formula One is a very competitive business,” and few tenths can decide if a season was a success or a failure,” further adding, “He (Schumacher) is working very intensively with the engineers and pushes
the people back home in the factory. We speak a lot but he is also speaking a lot to the engineers and the aerodynamicists. On one hand to support us, on the other to see how we are progressing.”
