F1 News: Sauber's Pedro de la Rosa Is Delighted After Finally Bagging Some Points
Spanish racer Pedro de la Rosa believes that his driving skills are better than ever before in his entire career. De la Rosa is one of the oldest racers of Formula One and has returned to the track after a gap of three years; however, he thinks that the three seasons out of the track have not affected his racing impulse; rather, he has returned with a lot more conviction and confidence.
The Spaniard had rejoined the sport at the start of the season alongside another very senior racer of the series, Michael Schumacher, who also stayed out for a period of three years.
The thirty nine-year old has had a very tough season right from the beginning, and was finally able to bag points for the first time in the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month, just before leaving for the summer break. He now says that he is delighted with his progress and thinks that the first points of the season have come at an excellent time as he was going home to spend some time with his family and friends.
As the Formula One motorcade began a three-week shutdown, AUTOSPORT’s official website asked the racer why he believes his comeback is a good one for him at a time when Schumacher is facing many difficulties, to which De la Rosa replied, "I don't know, but I feel better and better with every race.”
At Silverstone, the struggling driver had retired for the sixth time from the race, which he says was very tough for him to accept as the entire team thought they were really ready for action that time. However, in Hungary, things turned out better for him as he was able to do well in the qualifying and started the race from the ninth place on the grid, finishing at seventh.
While talking about the race, he said that he does not know about any of the other drivers, but as far as he is concerned, he thinks he is getting at a good level now and hopes to get better in little time.
De la Rosa commented that his team, BMW Sauber, had a tough time at the start of the season, but now things are getting settled. He added that he thinks they are now prepared for all types of tracks unlike the start of the season, when they were able to perform at even the quick, smooth ones.
He further elaborated by saying that they have come up with a number of changes in their car since Valencia which targeted slow speed corners, and therefore, they were able to perform well in Hungary.
He added that every change needs time to show its worth, and they are testing things which have so far shown to be going in the right direction.
He stated that a while before, things seemed very tough and stagnant for the team; however, now he definitely thinks that they have started making right changes to the car and he could soon hope to even count his car among the competitive ones for the season, even at the ultra high-speed tracks like Silverstone.
De la Rosa, like always, did not forget to praise the input and dedication of the new technical director in the team, James Key, who joined the team earlier this year.
He believes that James Key is a very healthy addition to the team and has made a vital difference to the team’s performance by contributing brilliantly for its technical development.
