F1 News: Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber make up
Red Bull Racing Team had a rollercoaster of a ride in 2010 before winning both constructors’ and drivers’ titles.
Red Bull gave an exceptional performance in 2009 as well but it seems that the RB6 was unbeatable in 2010. Both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were at their best and challenged each other throughout the season.
However, when there are two potential champions in a single team, it is quite rare that they get along. Vettel and Webber at first seemed like very good friends but the Turkish Grand Prix and Red Bull’s statement about the Australian changed it all.
The two Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were running in 1st and 2nd places respectively at the Turkish Grand Prix before Vettel tried to take over and failed quite badly. Both of them were unable to judge the chicane
and as a result, Vettel’s car hit Webber’s. Luckily, Webber was able to survive the collision but was unable to retain the race and as a result, the Aussie finished in 3rd place while his teammate was unable to continue the race.
Other than that, Red Bull boss Christian Horner stated that the team wants to evolve around Sebastian Vettel since he is very young and has a long way to go. Even Webber claimed so. He said that the team was giving more preference to Sebastian Vettel.
Since this incident, the two Red Bull drivers were not the best of friends any longer but according to Webber, both of the drivers have buried the hatchet now.
“It is hard to talk closely to each other during the season in the heat of the battle and over the winter we will have more time to build for the season and do a better job without any friction,” Webber said.
He believes that the pressure of winning the drivers’ title took the best out of both of them.
“Our relationship is good now. At the end of the year it was good to have a chat about things now and push a few things away that happened. People have to understand it only happens once every 10-15 years where you have two drivers in one team going for
a championship,” he added.
