F1 News: Sebastian Vettel aware of the situation Red Bull is currently facing
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has been outperforming his teammate Mark Webber since the past 5 races. Even at the Korean Grand Prix, where both of the Red Bulls retired, Sebastian was able to secure the pole position and was looking
pretty good until the unfortunate retirement due to a mechanical failure.
The Korean Grand Prix was a groundbreaking race this season as Ferrari took the championship lead for the first time in the second half of the 2010 season and since both of the Red Bulls retired, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton
ruled the race and enabled themselves to compete in the championship race more actively.
It seems that due to the current situation, Sebastian Vettel’s chances of winning the 2010 title seem bleak and in order to keep both titles within the team, it seems that Sebastian Vettel might have to compromise for his teammate.
The German driver strongly hinted in an interview that he will help his Mark Webber secure the title for the team. Since Red Bull has been the strongest team in the qualifying sessions since the beginning of this season, it is
expected that Sebastian Vettel will help his teammate if the two Red Bulls are running for a 1-2 this weekend and hopefully let the Australian win the race to achieve the drivers’ title for his team.
Sebastian Vettel can only win the title in a situation where Fernando Alonso finishes in 6th place and Sebastian wins the race. However, if Mark finishes in 2nd place behind him, then the two Red Bulls will
be tied and the driver with more wins will take the title. However, since both of them have the same amount of wins, Sebastian Vettel will take the title because he has more pole positions than his teammate.
As a result of this complicated scenario, Sebastian Vettel insisted that he is not thinking about what the future holds for him or his team.
“At the end of the day we are employed by the team. And if this situation occurs you do not need to be a genius to decide what to do - you will act accordingly. I am not thinking too much about these kinds of situations,” he said.
He believes that the critics and professionals are making a huge deal out of this situation but the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina circuit is definitely going to be a killer.
On the other hand, Red Bull’s team boss Christian Horner stated that he is expecting nothing less than either of his drivers’ winning the title this weekend. He believes that the two Red Bull drivers are not immature and they are
aware of what they have to do. The decision is in their hands entirely.
“It is very difficult indeed. On one hand you are driving for yourself and on the other hand you are driving for a team. You rely on all those members of the team so it is a horrible question to be faced with as a driver,” he said.
However, a driver is ultimately driving for the team and since the team is facing such a complex situation, Sebastian must do the right thing because there is no other way for Red Bull to win the title unless Mark gives a champion’s
performance and does the job himself.
Nevertheless, Christian stated that in case Alonso retires or drives down the field due to some reason, the two Red bull drivers will be on their own.
“Absolutely, at that point both are racing for the world championship. The risk that Lewis Hamilton has a 'free ride' to the championship is there, but as Dietrich [Mateschitz] always tells me, if there's no risk, there's no fun!”
said the team boss.
