F1 is a long journey – Sebastian Vettel
The 2010 Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel won the highly contested Driver’s title at the grand finale at the illustrious Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The German driver has been driving for Red Bull for 2 years now
and it is quite clear that he is one of the major reasons why Red Bull is currently on top.
The team won its first Driver’s and Constructor’s title this year with the help of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Both of the drivers drove fantastically throughout the season as Mark Webber led the Driver’s standings for most
of the season. However, Sebastian led the standings just once in the season and that was when it counted the most.
Sebastian Vettel has proved that he is one of the best by beating the best in the sport namely Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button. Sebastian has proved that the two times World Champion Fernando
Alonso is not the only one who can build a team from scratch and therefore, this marks the beginning for the young German.
Vettel is just 23 years old and has a long way to go. However, he still has to prove that he is consistent enough to retain his title in 2011 and potentially, win more titles in the future. Red Bull has been in the sport for 6
years now and it is quite obvious that they have not proved that they are as consistent as McLaren or Ferrari.
McLaren and Ferrari have been the two most consistent teams in the sport. Both of the teams were introduced as one of the founding teams in Formula One and since then, have scored most of the titles in the sport to date.
Since Red Bull is not as stable as McLaren or Ferrari, Sebastian is now feeling that he might have to continue his journey with either McLaren or Ferrari however, he is stuck with Red Bull for the 2011 season and hopes to defend
his title with the team.
Sebastian admitted that just like every driver, his dream is to drive for either McLaren or Ferrari in the future. Vettel won the final two races of the season in order to snatch the title away from Jenson Button as he took the
lead from Fernando Alonso in the Driver’s standings in the very final race in Abu Dhabi. He claims that his fellow countryman Michael Schumacher told the young German about his experience with Mercedes and Ferrari. The seven-time World Champion mentored Sebastian
as he is trying to help his fellow countryman to carry on his legacy.
“Obviously he [Schumacher] told me what kind of special moments he experienced driving for Ferrari and Mercedes. Both brands are the past, present and certainly the future of Formula One,” Sebastian told the Media.
Vettel is aware that he needs to jump on to a more consistent team but claims that he does not plan to leave Red Bull anytime soon. The team has clearly worked harder than the rest in 2010 and they are not going to relax in 2011
either.
“Every driver dreams of Ferrari and Mercedes. If one ever ends up driving for them depends on a number of things. Everything must fit together. The myth alone is not enough. But this is still a long way away. My next aim is to
defend the title with Red Bull,” he added.
Since the young German expressed his feelings of joining one of the big cheeses in the sport, Red Bull is not going to be happy as it is just a matter of time before their young champion leaves them in the same situation they were
in until 2009.
