F1 news: The British duo would battle up till the end
The British team, McLaren is insistent that both the team drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton enjoy a very good relationship with each other and once on the track the duo would be supportive for each other.
The team Principal, Martin Whitmarsh while talking to the media earlier today reported that he is happy with the way both the team drivers stand with each other. "There's a good relationship between the two drivers and I'm sure
they're going to co-operate with each other."
The team boss had time and again announced that he is not going to support any one of the drivers rather both the men would get an equal assistance from the team. At the unfortunate, Korean Grand Prix, Jenson Button was only able
to stand at 12th place, thus walking out of the race without having earned any points. This not only kept him from elevating anywhere above fifth place in the drivers’ charts, but also the chances of defending his championship dimmed badly.
With only two more races to go and just 50 points to play for, Button still believes that the race is not yet over for him. He currently stands at 5th place in the Drivers’ Championship with 189 points. Though the difference
of 42 points is somewhat impossible at this stage, yet, the driver as well as his team is reluctant to give up.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton stands at a much better place than Button. Having bagged second place in the Korean Grand Prix he has moved to third place in the charts with his 210 points. With only two more rounds, his difference of just
21 points makes him a more eligible contender for the championship.
After the last race it was thought by all the analysts as well as the reporters that Button would now be asked to support his teammate. But contrary to that, the team has still stuck to what they announced earlier that they would be staying unbiased for
both the drivers believing that mathematically both remain in the battle.
Moreover, the team principal has also announced that he is actually delighted to know that Button is still striving for a race win at Interlagos this Sunday.
"I think we all know there are no team orders in the sport so I think the right thing for a racing driver is to go there and win. I'd be disappointed if Jenson isn't going there trying to win. I think the Championship for Jenson in particular is tough but
if he was telling me he had given up then I would be deeply disappointed. So I think the right thing is if he is getting his car in front of all of our competitors then that's absolutely the right target. We'll see what happens during the course of the weekend."
However, as many of the analysts said that they believe that McLaren is making a mistake by not favouring Hamilton over Button, Whitmarsh was quick to reply that he reckons that Button is a remarkably ‘composed, mature, thinking driver’. He further continued
telling that firstly he wants the driver to go out and try to seek a race win. However, if that becomes impossible at some stage, he believes that both the team drivers would do whatever is best for the team’s interests and hence looking at the situation they
would do what is best for them.
Moreover, Hamilton also said that for winning his race he should not depend on Buttons’ support rather he wants his teammate to go out and fight his own battle, until he does not think that it is over for him.
