F11 System recovery help?

do you need a CD o restore the computer using F11

i want to restore the computer to factory setting because of viruses how do i do this and what do i need to do it?

any links or advise will be welcomed thank you all.

  1.   The above answer is correct but that also applies to other brands such as Gateway and others running a Raid 0 configuration. Normally on Gateway and a couple of other I have reloaded, pressing F-11 during boot up will give you two choices. A destructive format which will format the drive and not bother the partition that your recovery files are in, and a non destructive format which just basically overwrites everything on the disk. I use the destructive format as I want to get rid of any fragmented and unlinked files. But I don't know if this is the same wording as some other brands use.

  2. If it has a recovery partition you do not need any cd's. You mention f11 so I assume it's an HP or Compaq. Just follow the steps in the recovery program.

    If you format it though keep in mind you will lose any saved data, such as pictures and documents.
