FA Cup - 3rd Round Match Recap: Manchester United deny Liverpool resurgence under Kenny Dalglish
Liverpool squared off against Manchester United this weekend in the pick of the bunch of the FA Cup third round ties. And just a day before the match, Roy Hodgson was sacked as the manager of the Reds, and Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish was brought in to
replace him.
Obviously the owners thought if they would bring in a new face on the eve of an enormous match like this one then it might go on to motivate the players to a much needed victory, for the sake of the players and to please the fans who have been very unforgiving
in recent times.
Kenny Dalglish sent out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 is still missing due to injury. In the attacking front, Dalglish
had the likes of both talisman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678.
Sir Alex Feguson though was missing his talismanic striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 and Darren
Fletcher sat in central midfield. Rafael Da Silva and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tomasz-Kuszczak-c35329 kept goal.
The match started off perfectly for United, albeit contentiously for Liverpool as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884’s challenge, and replays showed minimal, if any,
contact. It might have been contentiously won, but it was expertly dispatched by the decorated United veteran, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985.
Liverpool then piled on the pressure and started creating chances. Before half time, they had four good opportunities to score, including a golden chance that Fernando Torres fluffed from close range. Then in the 32nd minute, as the ball broke
loose, Steven Gerrard lunged in with both feet to try and win the ball, but in the process caught Michael Carrick and was thus sent off with a straight red card.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Babel-c31971 came on to inject some pace and trickery into the Liverpool side. But,
in the end, none of them could alter the score line, and so Dalglish fell in his first task at the club.
Liverpool have their work cut out for them if they want to get anywhere near the heights they achieved back in 2008/2009 when they defeated the Red Devils 4-1 at Old Trafford. And the Reds have to start their rejuvenation this weekend in the hotly contested
Liverpool derby against Everton. And now they will have to do it without their chief inspiration, as Gerrard’s red card earns him a suspension for that game. Kenny Dalglish will try to get his beloved Liverpool from down in the doldrums to high in the sky
but he knows that turning Liverpool’s season around is probably the hardest thing in this year's Barclays Premier League.
