FA Cup Full Time Report: Birmingham City vs Bolton Wanderers – Late goal gives Bolton win (Part 1)
Birmingham City played host to Bolton Wanderers at home in a FA Cup sixth round match. Both sides were looking to pick up the win Saturday night in order to progress to the next round of the tournament and stand a chance at landing some silverware at the end of the season.
Going into the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barry-Ferguson-c7311 received a pain-killing injection for his broken rib which allowed him to make the side. Apart from that, Birmingham chose to field a very familiar side, but were missing Johnson, Carr, Bowyer, Gardner and Zigic.
The line-ups on the night were as follows:
Birmingham: Foster, Parnaby, Jiranek, Davies, Murphy, Larsson, Ferguson, Mutch, Beausejour, Jerome, Phillips
Subs: Doyle, Ridgewell, Ozturk, Gardner, Redmond, Derbyshire

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Cahill, Wheater, Robinson, Elmander, Holden, Muamba, Petrov, K Davies, Klasnic
Subs: Bogdan, Taylor, M Davies, Rodrigo, Blake, Chung-Yong, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alonso-c5254
Once the match got underway, both sides looked to be equally matched up. However after twenty minutes or so, Birmingham were starting to get a better hold of possession and were starting to ask questions of the Bolton defence. In the 20th minute of play, Gretar Steinsson was booked for a dreadful tackle in the Birmingham area.
Then in the 21st minute, Bolton went on to pick up the opening goal against the run of play. Jaaskelainen went on to boot a clearance well into the Birmingham area. The ball managed to find its way to Klasnic who flicked a pass to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Elmander-c18782. The striker went on to beat the offside-trap and buried his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal and opened the scoring on the night. Every time Elmander has scored in the FA Cup for Bolton, they have gone on to win the game, and this goal seemed like a good omen.
In the 28th minute Jiranek was forced to come off the pitch due to an ankle injury and as a result http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liam-Ridgewell-c22240 stepped onto the pitch to replace the him. However, one minute later Birmingham were compelled to make another switch. Barry Ferguson was forced out of action because he was unable to keep playing with his brokenrib. As a result, Nathan Redmond was brought on for the midfielder.
Birmingham were now trailing Bolton by a goal to nil at the thirtieth minute mark and were left with only one substitution to choose from.
