FA Cup Full Time Report: Birmingham City vs Bolton Wanderers – Late goal gives Bolton win (Part 2)
After the two substitutions, Birmingham started to show some life on the pitch and were being spurred on by their support that had turned up at St. Andrews. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameron-Jerome-c8284 started to spring into life and really started to show his worth in the game.
In the 38th minute Wheater hacked at a clearance and his mistimed check managed to land into the path of Jerome. The striker then used his tempo in the game as a catalyst to boost his confidence and took a shot at the goal. His effort sailed in
to the bottom left hand corner of the goal, after being released from the player’s feet at the edge of the area. As a result of the goal, Birmingham were back in the game, having scored a goal out of almost nothing.
After the goal, the home-fans seemed to get into the mood and were looking to encourage their team to go on and perform even better. It seemed like the home-side were complying with the demands of the fans as they started to string together a number of passes
and were looking to get the better of their opponents after having applied the pressure through the equalising goal.
In the 45th minute, just before the end of the half, there was a mad rush in the Bolton area as the ball just pinged around looking to be kicked. Jerome tried to knock the ball into the oppositions box but the Bolton defence somehow managed to
get rid of the ball with a last ditch clearance.
After three minutes of stoppage time in the opening half, the referee blew the whistle to signal the fifteen minute break. At the end of the first half, despite being level on the night, Birmingham looked to be the much more threatening side and seemed to
be favourites to go through to the next round.
After the re-start, both sides took to the field as they were in the opening half, with neither one of the managers looking to change things around. This was considering the fact that Birmingham had already used two of their substitutions in the opening
thirty minutes of play and were bound to be more cautious when it came to using their last substitution.
