FA Cup Full Time Report: Birmingham City vs Bolton Wanderers – Late goal gives Bolton win (Part 4)
After taking the lead in the game, Bolton started to turn things around and were now looking to be the more threatening side in the match. However, Birmingham weren’t looking to take no for an answer and started to build a comeback of their own in the game.
In the 70th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Phillips-c20763 decided to take things into his own hands as he took a pop at goal from far out. The player’s diagonal shot at the goal went on to sail across the face of the goal and seemed to be destined for the bottom corner.
However, Jaaskelainen dove brilliantly and made a very crucial save with his finger tips to deny the ball from sailing into the back of the net, as it went on to crash off the wood work instead.
Ten minute later, Kevin Phillips made no mistake as he struck a beautiful goal. In the 80th minute Phillips smacked a volley from some 25 yards out and his looping effort managed to dip over Jaaskelainen’s head and nestle into the back of the
net and as a result both side were now level in the game.
Just as the clock struck ticked on the 90th minute, Bolton struck out of nowhere and scored their third goal in the game. After Birmingham failed to clear their lines, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716 found some space in the area and nodded an effort across the face
of the goal. Chung-Yong http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 however didn’t take any chances as he pounced on the loose ball and nodded it into the back of the net.
In stoppage time, Birmingham once again had a chance to get level in the game for the second time in the match. A ball was whipped into the Bolton area with pace and it looked like Jerome would score, as he forced his way onto the ball, while trying to put
it in the goal. However a brilliant last minute block prevented that from happening and eventually lead to Bolton winning the game by three goals to two. Birmingham ended up crashing out of the contest and Bolton went through to the next round.
At the end of the ninety minutes, Kevin Davies was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant performance in the game, which saw him score one goal and get the assist on the very crucial third goal for Bolton.
