Not wasting anytime, Liverpool went on to open the scoring in just the 5th minute, as Martin Skrtel scored the opening goal of the game. The defender beat his marker and went on to meet a corner, as he nodded the ball into the back of the net
with ease.
In the 18th minute, Brighton went on to get back in the game as LuaLua went on to score for the visitors. LuaLua went on to strike a free kick with precision and power, after it was rolled into his path and sent the ball crashing past Reina and
into the net.
Just before the end of the half, Liverpool were given the lead, as Brighton went on to score an own goal in the game. Brezovan hoofed the ball into the air, after which the keeper went on to deny Suarez from scoring. Johnson then headed the ball goalwards,
only to see Vokes head the ball into a Brighton player, which eventually saw the ball roll over the goal line.
Andy Carroll ten went on to score a goal in the 57th minute, as Downing played a pass back to the striker and saw him tap the ball into the back of the net with a first time finish.
Brighton then went on to gift Liverpool another goal, as they scored their second own goal of the game in the 71st minute. Gerrard went on to strike an effort goalwareds, but saw his effort get saved. Bridcutt tried to get the ball away, but only
managed to help it slip into the back of his own goal.
Things got a whole lot worse for Brighton as they scored their third own goal of the game. Dunk tried to dribble a ball away from a dangerous area, but then went on to juggle it into his own, goal as he just couldn’t keep control of the ball.
Just before the match came to an end, Liverpool got their sixth goal of the game, as Luis Suarez went on to convert from close range. The striker failed to convert from the spot, but the ball flew back into the forwards path and he didn’t miss the second
time around.
As a result, Liverpool went on to win the game by six goals to one, as they sent Brighton crashing out of the competition in style.
