The Australian International was involved in a violent ruction with the Magpies midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423. He grabbed the Frenchman by the throat at the end of the game apparently after he had said something to him. The match referee Andre Marriner showed
Cahill a straight Red Card for his stunt, while Cabaye picked up a yellow card for his part in the row.
Now that the midfielder’s ban appeal has been rejected by the FA, he will serve out a three match suspension at the start of the 2012/13 season.
Nevertheless, Cahill accepted the punishment meted out at him and revealed that that Magpies midfielder had incited him towards fight.
He told the reporters, “My reaction at the end of the game was out of character but I was disgusted at comments made to me by Cabaye.”
“I don't wish to elaborate on the exact detail of what was said - but his words have no place either on or off the football pitch.”
After the incident which took place on Sunday, Cabaye tendered an official apology over his behaviour, and mentioned that his fight with Cahill was a result of frustration and disappointment over losing out their final match. Newcastle lost the game 3-1
which consigned them to a fifth place finish in the final standings, and also ended their dream of bringing Champions League football at Tyneside next season.
He said, “It was unnecessary and, regrettably, the result of frustration and disappointment, all in the heat of the moment.”
However, Cahill refused to utter the nature and details of the comments passed by Cabaye at the end of the game which had infuriated him. He pointed out that the Frenchman had already issued an apology and that this ugly chapter was now closed.
“Cabaye has apologised via his club's website and as far as I am concerned the matter is now closed.” He added.
