FAFSA, when do you know that you're going to get $$ from them?

  1. It's confusing the first time.  File the FAFSA by the deadline & you should get a response within about 4 weeks with regard to federal aid.  About 4 weeks after that you usually hear about any state aid.

    Once you accept admittance to a school they send you a letter of financial aid eligibility confirming it for that particular institution (& telling you about any scholarships you might get from the school).

    If your letters say you qualify for certain types of loans, it will tell you how to go about getting them.  Often your school will also tell you and have a link on their financial aid website right to it for you.

    Any time you have any questions, call the financial aid office for any/each of the schools you have applied to.  They get the same information you do electronically.


  2. Anyone can get money from them in the form of student loans as long as you are a us citizen or eligible non citizen and aren't defaulted on student loans and have a decent college GPA if you have past college work.
