  1. STEP 1:

Just wait a while (few weeks). They will send your information to the Financial Aid office of your school. You may call your Financial Aid office (in approx. 6 weeks) to see if they need any additional information. Why? This one time, I didn't receive my grant because they needed to confirm my DATE OF BIRTH! So, please call and make sure that they have all the information they need.

    STEP 2:

Check your SAR report. They will mail you a paper Student Aid Report (SAR), or you will receive an e-mail that lets you access your electronic SAR. Your SAR will contain either a request for further information or a number called the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your school uses the EFC to determine the amount of your federal grants, loans, or work-study awards for which you may be, eligible.

Your school, your state, or Federal Student Aid may ask you to verify the accuracy of the information you gave on your application.

    STEP 3:

Check the status of your application. (NOTE: You should wait three days after submitting your application before checking the status.)

Select Check Status of a Submitted FAFSA or Print Signature Page under the FAFSA Follow-Up section of the home page.

You will need to enter your Social Security Number, your first and last name, your date of birth, and the year of the FAFSA you completed.

    Select Submit.

Read all of the notes on the screen as the instructions vary according to your application's status.

    STEP 4:

Make sure EVERYTHING IS CORRECT (from the SAR report), Any school you have listed on your FAFSA will receive an electronic copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) once your application has been processed.

STEP 5: YOU ARE DONE!!!! Just wait...

The schools to which you are applying use the information from your SAR to determine your eligibility for financial aid. The financial aid office at your school will prepare a financial aid package to help meet your financial need. Financial need is the difference between your school's cost of attendance (including living expenses) and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

The amount of your financial aid award depends on several factors, including whether:

    You're a full-time or part-time student

You attend school for a full academic year or less

You believe you have special circumstances such as unusual medical or dental expenses

Your financial aid will be paid to you through your school. Typically, your school will first use the aid to pay tuition, fees, and room and board (if provided by the school). Any remaining aid is given to you for your other expenses.

    Hope this helps!!!!

  2. Give it a week and contact your financial aid office where you are attending and verify they have received the form electronically.  They will get it if you listed their school code on the schools section.

Make sure you have submitted all required paperwork to their office.  Once they review your FAFSA they can tell you if they need additional information or what your award eligibility is.

  3. Now you wait.

I filled out my daughter's application on March 30 and she got her awards letter Monday, May 5.

Just keep checking your email for notification....you will get email saying that your application has been processed and within a couple days of that you should get notification.

There is a 800 ph# you can call to check status.

    It's on the FAFSA website.

  4. Talk to the Financial Aid department at your college.  They will need more info from you.  You might have to fill out extra forms and everything.
