FAT32 to NTFS results in HDD failure

Changing my IBM laptop XP installation from FAT 32 to NTFS with 3 partitions, when at 35% the process stopped, I waited for 30 minutes more, but nothing happened aftter that. I restarted the laptop, but now it says that the hdd does nor exist. HELP please
