FAU Women’s Volleyball team hires Fernanda Nelson as new coach – Volleyball news
The Florida Atlantic University (FAU), which has the official mascot of Owls, recently hired the services of a new head coach for women’s volleyball programme.
The Interim Athletic Director, Melissa Dawson, confirmed the news on Monday, June 4 that Fernanda Nelson will take over the Owls in the running season.
Nelson took a lot of pleasure to accept the influential role of Owls’ mentor at Florida Atlantic University. She expressed her emotions in the following manner, “I am very excited to be joining the FAU family. I would like to thank FAU President Mary Jane
Saunders and Melissa Dawson for giving me the opportunity to start my head coaching career.”
“I would also like to thank FGCU head volleyball coach Dave Nichols and FGCU for helping me realize my dream of heading my own volleyball program. I'm looking forward to leading a great group of girls, turning the program around and winning championships,”
she further added.
Likewise, Dawson seemed happy to have Nelson in the volleyball programme.
Hence, FAU has received a fifth coach in the form of Nelson. Earlier on, Nelson served as an assistant coach at the Florida Gulf Coast University. During the last four seasons, she worked out great progress in the shoes of assistant coach and hugely contributed
to the overall success of FGCU Volleyball Programme.
However, she attached with FGCU after proving her endeavours as a player and a coach at National American University (NAU) in Sioux City, South Dakota for almost eight years. She joined NAU as a fresher in 2000 and received many accolades. She settled for
second-team NAIA All-American honours. Later on, she grabbed more success as a sophomore and a senior player at the NAU.
On account of her wonderful skills, NAU offered her to join the coaching staff right after the conclusion of her career as a player. Gradually, she got the knack of her work and moved to FGCU as an assistant coach.
Now that Nelson has joined the FAU, it is expected that the Owls will benefit from her experience.
Owls did not have a satisfactory record in the previous season as they dropped 26 games in 2011 and captured only three. Nonetheless, the team has high hopes to work its position up with the help of new coach.
